Upon a direct reading of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, it seems clear that Congress recognized the importance of providing the franchising sector a path to recovery. For the Act to achieve its intended outcome and have maximum impact, IFA requests confirmation that certain franchised businesses have eligibility in the Paycheck Protection Loan program.

Governors, along with state agencies and legislators across the country are leading the charge against the COVID 19 pandemic. At the time of this letter, more than half of the states have closed non-essential businesses. To further protect Americans, the International Franchise Association urges states to immediately close all convention centers and large meetings for the foreseeable future.

To ensure that franchisees are able to recover from the unprecedented economic burden created by COVID 19, the International Franchise Association (IFA) urges states to implement an emergency forbearance and rent abatement program in this letter to National Governors Association.

A letter regarding the inclusion of the general 7(a) loan program enhancement provisions in the final CARES Act. These enhancements will help stabilize the financial system and prevent further economic consequences beyond what franchises and their employees are already experiencing.

A letter to Majority Leader McConnell and Minority Leader Schumer proposing they increase the small business fund in the CARES Act so that franchisees can access a larger loan in order to cover monthly operating expenses, debt obligations, etc. and not just payroll.
