When COVID-19 struck the restaurant landscape in mid-March, Tropical Smoothie Cafe prioritized giving back to the community. We quickly challenged our franchisees to donate 100,000 smoothies to show our gratitude to local healthcare workers and first responders on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic and give back to the communities they serve as part of the #InThisTogether campaign. These are unprecedented times, and our safety is dependent upon the selfless, hard work of our local healthcare workers and first responders, and we want to help them in any way we can.
Sola Salon Studios, like so many other franchise brands, is navigating uncharted waters right now. From when we began feeling the initial impact of this pandemic only a month ago to now, things have shifted drastically and they continue to evolve on a daily basis.
At Childrens Lighthouse Early Learning Schools℠, our best practices and leadership insights work in tandem because we know that every decision made today will impact our business tomorrow. With that in mind, our team holds itself to a certain standard when determining the proper course of action for any situation – especially a crisis situation. How Does Franchising Work?
Franchising is an arrangement where a name brand company grants a local entrepreneur the right to use its business name, trademarks, and processes to produce and market a good or service. The business owner usually pays a one-time fee and a percentage of sales revenue as royalty. Typically, the brand provides national advertising and support, while the independent owner is responsible for day-to-day operations of the business, including hiring and scheduling employees.

We are all in this together. That is the sentiment that has led our franchise owners’ initiatives around the world. They have stepped up in many ways to support their customers and communities.
Innovation has been at the forefront for Signarama owners with the creation of new products to help protect employees, guests and customers. The medical community in particular has had an increasing need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Sorry, COVID-19, but entrepreneurs will do what entrepreneurs always do. Even in a crisis. Especially in a crisis. What’s that, you ask? Well, we come together. We think of out-of-the-box ideas. And when someone needs help, we help the best way we know how—by being resourceful, scrappy, generous.
One of the beautiful things about franchising is that it allows every franchise owner to keep the on-the-ground perspective and ability to impact their communities at the local level, while having the franchisor and the broader franchise support system in their corner.
During this time of intense anxiety, tragic loss and growing concern for others, many people are overcoming their own stress and pain by pouring positive energy into their local community with acts of support and kindness. Of greatest note is the painstaking work of our hospital and healthcare workers, grocery store supply chain professionals and police, fire and first responders who are risking their lives to keep us safe and healthy.
